Russian Telegram channels report that an aircraft caught fire in Russian Ivanovo airfield and sharply began to descend.

Preliminary reports indicate there were at least 12 people onboard the plane.

The Russian Il-76 plane reportedly crashed on the territory of a cemetery near the village of Bogorodskoye, Russia.

The plane took off from the Severny airfield and stayed in the air for several minutes. During a turn, the plane’s engine caught fire.

The pilot tried to reach the airfield, but when he realized that he could not do this, he began to steer the plane away from residential areas, according to local media.

Black smoke is coming from the crash site, locals report.

The Ilyushin Il-76 is a multi-purpose, fixed-wing, four-engine turbofan strategic airlifter designed by the Soviet Union’s Ilyushin design bureau as a commercial freighter in 1967, to replace the Antonov An-12. It was developed to deliver heavy machinery to remote, poorly served areas.
