On May 2nd, 2024, a Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A321neo sustained damage after a jet bridge collapse at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in California.

The Airbus A321neo with registration N216HA has just arrived as flight HA42 from Kahului, Maui. Reports indicate that the jet bridge malfunctioned and collapsed after the Airbus A321neo had docked at Gate A1.

The collapse resulted in damage to the aircraft’s L1 door, which is the main passenger door located on the forward left side of the fuselage.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among passengers, crew members, or ground personnel. However, the incident led to the cancellation of the flight and the aircraft being grounded for repairs at SFO.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is likely investigating the cause of the jet bridge collapse. This will involve inspecting the bridge structure and maintenance records to determine what led to the failure.

Depending on the severity of the damage, the aircraft could be out of service for a few days or even weeks.
