A United Airlines Boeing 777-300ER turned around over Atlantic and diverted to St. John’s.

Monday, September 23 2024, the United Airlines flight #UA956 departed from Newark Airport at 17:30 EDT.

The flight was operated by a 31-year-old Boeing 767-300ER (registration N663UA) to Geneva, Switzerland.

The plane was cruising at 35,000 ft when the crew decided to turn around and divert to St. John’s, Canada.

According to when the The Aviation Herald, the pilots reported smoke on board.

The flight landed safely on St. John’s runway 28 about one hour later. A spare Boeing 767-300 (registration N661UA)resumed the flight.

It departed St. John’s at 08:40 NDT on Wednesday, about 34 hours later.
