Those that refuse to wear masks at Perth Airport in Western Australia could face fines of up to $50,000 ($US38,400 €31,800 £28,300).

To help keep you Covid-safe, it is now mandatory to wear masks within Perth Airport’s terminals.

If you are travelling, dropping off or meeting a passenger, arrive wearing your mask to enter the terminal.

The mandate came after Australia’s National Cabinet agreed to make masks compulsory on all domestic flights and all flights into and out of Australia in order to help prevent the spread of the UK strain of SARS-CoV-2.

The rule at Perth Airport applies both outside and inside the terminal, including anyone in a vehicle with passengers, in car parks, terminal buses, forecourts and taxi/rideshare ranks. Children under 12 are exempt, as well as those who can’t wear one because of a physical or mental illness that makes wearing one unsuitable. The only times a mask can be removed if for communicating with deaf and hearing impaired person, eating, drinking and taking medication while seated, and security checks.

Update: The masks rule doesn’t just apply when you are in our terminals. Masks must also be worn in our car parks, terminal buses, on our forecourts, incl. pick-up/drop-off points and taxi/ride-share ranks. BYO mask and put it on when you get out your car. https://t.co/0gC9vYnQTx pic.twitter.com/rmXlP9xdX3
