British Airways and Iberia were experiencing a technical failure for a few hours on Monday.

British Airways and Iberia flights were experiencing delay due to IT issues in Terminal 5 at London Heathrow. According to reports, the main airline had lost communications with its flights within Europe.

The flag carrier was working to fix a “technical issue” on its website.

Our flights are currently operating, but are experiencing delays as our teams work to resolve a technical issue affecting some of our systems.

British Airways spokesperson

The arrivals were regulated at a reduced rate at London Heathrow for British Airways, British Airways Shuttle and Iberia flights.

The technical issue impacting British Airways has now been resolved. Our teams remain on hand to support British Airways to help passengers on their way as quickly as possible.

British Airways’ fleet of 12 Airbus A380s has been experiencing a series of technical incidents in recent weeks.

The latest incident, on November 6, the A380 performing flight BA207, registered G-XLEC, took off from London-Heathrow for Miami at 11:24 a.m., instead of the initial scheduled time of 9:50 a.m.

About four minutes after the start of the flight, the superjumbo turned south, towards the Channel to probably dump fuel, before beginning its return to its point of departure.

The A380 G-XLEC in question, which was returned to service in June 2022, is not at its first fault. It had already had to be placed in maintenance on October 13 and 31, and on November 2, leading to the cancellation of flights scheduled with this aircraft.

In early October, another A380 returned from two and a half months of maintenance only to be taken out of service again the next day, after having only made two flights.

On October 26th, British Airways A380 G-XLEA was grounded after it dumped fuel and returned to Dallas-Fort Worth. The Flight BA192 experienced hydraulic issue.

According to FlightRadar24: “between July 1 and September 18, 2024, 3.94% of all British Airways A380 flights were cancelled or transferred to another aircraft .” That’s nearly one in 25 A380 flights.

The cause of these numerous incidents could be the prolonged storage of A380s during the Covid pandemic in Châteauroux in France, a place too humid compared to aircraft storage parks in Spain or the United States, according to Head for Points.

A British Airways flight carrying Payne’s remains left Buenos Aires for London Heathrow.

Former One Direction star Liam Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, has begun repatriating his son’s body to Britain after his death from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony.

Payne’s remains were taken from Buenos Aires for London on a flight.

The British Airways A350-1000 (registration G-XWBG) departed Ezeiza Airport for a two hour flight to Rio de Janeiro.

Then the flight #BA248 departed GIG Airport and landed at London Heathrow this morning shortly before 8 am.

A video on social media showed his father at Ezeiza International Airport before boarding. Payne’s body was transferred from the British Cemetery in Buenos Aires.

Payne was found dead on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Hotel in the Argentinian capital.

His death has sparked a global outpouring of grief and a debate about the music industry’s duty of care for the mental health of stars who find fame at a young age.

Payne had spoken publicly about struggles with substance abuse and coping with fame from an early age.

A British Airways flight to San Jose returned to London Gatwick more than 9 hours later following an issue.

British Airways flight #BA2237 departed London Gatwick in the morning of Tuesday, October 29 2024 for a 11-hour flight to San Jose in Costa Rica.

The Boeing 777-200ER (registration G-YMMD) took off form runway 26L at Gatwick and climbed to the cruise altitude of 36,000 ft.

But almost 5 hours later, while in middle of the Atlantic, the crew decided to turn around after contacting the airline about a technical issue on board.

The 24-year-old aircraft was suffering a water leak which could not be solved midair. The water system stopped to work forcing the pilots to stop the mission.

The plane flew all the way back to UK and landed at London Gatwick Airport 9 hours and 28 minutes after depatrture.

The faulty aircraft is already back in service, currently flying as #BA2203 to Cancun.

Two women were removed from a British Airways flight at Heathrow after an altercation reportedly provoked by a Make America Great Again (Maga) cap.

As passengers waited to board a British Airways flight bound for Austin, Texas, one woman demanded the hat was taken off, which bore the slogan of the Republican US Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The incident occurred on Monday as the women, aged 40 and 60, were preparing to board a flight bound for Austin, Texas.

Witnesses said that one woman took offence at her fellow passenger’s red Maga hat, worn by supporters of the former US president Donald Trump, and asked that it be removed.

Flight BA191 had been due to depart the airport at 12.10pm and eventually took off at 2.11pm without the two women onboard.

Punches were allegedly exchanged between the two women, both booked to fly in premium economy, before they ended up squaring up to one another in the cabin. When the captain called for assistance, police arrived at the scene to escort the passengers from the aircraft.

Shortly after 12.45pm on Monday, 28 October, police at Heathrow were made aware of an incident involving two women waiting to board a plane in Terminal 5.

British Airways said in a statement: “We apologised to our customers for the delay and got them on the way as quickly as possible.”

The Airbus A350-1000 (registration G-XWBE) finally took off 2 hours late and landed at 7:42pm CDT.

But right after takeoff, pilots noticed a hydraulic issue as the main landing gear was only partially retracted.

The aircraft (registration G-XLEA) climbed to 20,000 ft and started to dump fuel in order to reduce the weight.

The Airbus A380 returned 2 hours and 36 minutes later for a safe landing on runway 36L.

The flight was cancelled and the plane is grounded for maintenance check.

The Dallas-London route is now operated by Boeing 777W aircraft.

Shortage of with Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine parts is forcing British Airways to cancel flights.

British Airways has announced the cancellation of hundreds of long-haul flights due to a significant shortage of engine parts for its Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The airline is facing supply-chain issues related to Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, which have resulted in the grounding of six aircraft—approximately 15% of its Dreamliner fleet according to Travel and Tour World.

We’re disappointed that we’ve had to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays in the delivery of engines and parts from Rolls-Royce- particularly concerning the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines fitted to our 787 aircraft.

Spokesperson for British Airways

The daily service from Gatwick to New York’s JFK airport will be suspended from December 12 until the end of March.
