A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787 and a British Airways Airbus A350 collided on the ground at London Heathrow.

Saturday 6 April 2024, while being towed from the stand at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 3, a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787-9 left wingtip hit the horizontal stabilizer of a British Airways A350-1000.

The Virgin Atlantic aircraft (registration G-VDIA) arrived from Washington few hours earlier while the British Airways plane (registration G-XWBC) was parked after flight from Accra.

We are working alongside emergency services and our airline partners in response to an incident involving two aircraft on the ground earlier today.

London Heathrow spokesperson

The Virgin Atlantic Dreamliner was being towed by a separate private company to a different location on the airfield. No passengers were onboard when the collision occurred.

The right horizontal stabilizer, but also the elevator of the British Airways Airbus 350-1041 have been affected in the incident.

The Left wingtip area of the Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787-9 has also received structural damage that will ground it for days at least. It was been moved to a remote area of the airport to receive maintenance.
