American Airlines flight from Dallas to Madrid diverted to New York City due to overflowing lavatory.

Wednesday, August 7 2024, the flight #AA36 departed Dallas-Fort Worth, TX at 5:50 CDT for a 9-hour flight to Madrid, Spain.

The Boeing 777-200ER (registration N751AN) climbed to 37,000ft but contacted ATC about an issue on board before crossing the Atlantic.

The plane turned right and started the descent to New York City. After holding for a while, it was vectored to New York JFK Airport runway 04L and landed 3 hours and 30 minutes after it departed from DFW.

According to The Aviation Herald, the diversion was due to an overflowing toilet, making impossible to continue the flight to Europe.

On August 7, American Airlines flight 36 with service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Madrid (MAD) diverted to New York (JFK) due to a maintenance issue. The aircraft landed normally and since re-departed using a new aircraft. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience.

American Airlines statement to AIRLIVE

The flight resumed the next day using another Boeing 777-200ER aircraft (registration N770AN).
